Les échouements répétitifs de sargasses sur les côtes des Antilles françaises sont préoccupants compte tenu des impacts sanitaires, socio-économiques et environnementaux qu'ils occasionnent. Pour faire face à ce phénomène apparu en 2011, des actions visant à améliorer la connaissance, la prévision et l'atténuation des impacts ont été mises en oeuvre dès les premières crises puis structurées autour de plans nationaux depuis 2018. Si la connaissance du phénomène a progressé sur le plan scientifique, les travaux de recherche interdisciplinaire se poursuivent pour améliorer sa compréhension, mieux le prévoir et trouver des solutions pour renforcer les actions de lutte contre les sargasses à l'échelle territoriale, nationale et internationale.

Repeated sargassum groundings on the coasts of the French West Indies are a cause for concern, given the health, socio-economic and environmental impacts they cause. To deal with this phenomenon, which first appeared in 2011, measures to improve knowledge, forecasting and impacts mitigation have been implemented since the first crises and then structured around national plans since 2018. While scientific knowledge of the phenomenon has progressed, interdisciplinary research is continuing to improve understanding and forecasting, and to find solutions to strengthen action against sargassum at local, national and international levels.
