Part 1

What's climate change?

Many indicators, such as the increase in temperatures at the Earth's surface or the rising mean sea level, demonstrate a change in climate over the last century. A selection of observations of this change and its consequences are presented, first on a global scale, then in France.

The conclusions of the scientific community, synthesized in particular by the IPCC (see glossary), now lead to a consensus as to the role of human activities in this change: the climate balance is disrupted mainly by anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions (see glossary). This section also presents projections of the consequences of climate change, based on different assumptions about future GHG emission trajectories.
