Part 4

How are GHG emissions distributed by sector in France?

In France, inventories in Secten format (see appendices) provide a detailed breakdown of greenhouse gas emissions by sector. Since 1990, the biggest decreases in emissions have been seen in the energy and manufacturing sectors and, to a lesser extent, in the residential and services sectors. The transport sector is the only one not to have seen a reduction in its emissions between 1990 and 2022, even though the Covid-19 pandemic caused a marked but cyclical drop in its emissions in 2020. The LULUCF sector (see glossary) shows negative emissions, corresponding to net CO2 sequestration by biomass and soils.
