Part 5

What is the level of the carbon footprint in the world and in France?

The carbon footprint accounts for GHG emissions linked to French consumption, whether emitted on French territory or emitted abroad to satisfy French demand. Franceʼs carbon footprint is significantly higher than emissions on the domestic territory alone: +48% in 2019. Half of the carbon footprint is imported. In 2019, Franceʼs carbon footprint was 625 Mt CO2 eq, or 9.3 t CO2 eq per capita. In 2022, according to a provisional estimate, it would reach 623 Mt CO2 eq, or 9.2 t CO2 eq per capita.
