Foreword

This publication provides an overview of the main data related to climate change: the reality of climate change and its impacts, greenhouse gas emissions at global, European and national levels as well as the sectoral distribution of these emissions and their evolution, an estimate of France's carbon footprint and an update on the main climate policies implemented to address these issues. When available, provisional emissions statistics for 2021 are presented. However, most of the data relate to 2020, a somewhat unusual year in terms of greenhouse gas emissions due to the health crisis. Wherever possible, data is provided over a longer period in order to appreciate trends.

Several data sets, presented in graph format in this document, can also be downloaded from the SDES website.
