Part 6

What climate policies are implemented at the global level, in Europe and in France?

COP21 culminated in December 2015 with the adoption of the Paris Agreement, which sets long-term goals for mitigation and adaptation and involves the implementation of national policies by developed and developing countries. The national targets of the majority of countries party to the Agreement were revised in 2021 ahead of COP26. The European Union has set a new target of reducing its net emissions (emissions minus removals) by at least 55% between 1990 and 2030 and has committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Carbon pricing policies are being implemented in Europe and around the world (carbon tax and emissions trading scheme), in particular to redirect investment flows towards more carbon-efficient technologies. France has adopted a national low-carbon strategy and carbon budgets to implement the transition to a low-GHG economy.
