In 2024, electricity generation, which accounts for 32% of emissions from the energy industry in France, saw its emissions fall by 25%, mainly thanks to improved availability of nuclear reactors and favorable weather conditions for hydroelectric generation. Emissions from district heating (16% of the sector's emissions) fell by 2.4% as consumption in residential and services buildings declined (see p. 60).

Between 1990 and 2024, emissions from electricity generation fell by 75%, those from refining by 54%, those from fuel extraction, processing and distribution by 75% and those from district heating by 12%. Conversely, emissions from waste-to-energy increased by a factor of 2.6 over the same period.
