Part 5

What is the level of the carbon footprint in the world and in France?

The carbon footprint accounts for the GHG emissions emitted in France or abroad to satisfy French domestic final demand. In 2024, France's carbon footprint is estimated at 563M t CO2 eq, or 8.2 t CO2 eq per inhabitant, down 3.4% compared to 2023. Imported emissions account for 50% of the carbon footprint, explaining its much higher level than domestic emissions alone (369 Mt CO2 eq).

Warning: compared with the previous year's publication, the carbon footprint has been revised downwards, without significantly affecting inter-annual trends. This revision is due to updated global economic data (international input-output tables) produced by the European statistical organization Eurostat.
