Protected coastal areas: between urbanised territories and large natural spaces
The metropolitan seaside presents two faces one after the other on its different maritime façades, one dominated by large areas of nature, the other marked by strong artificialisation. There are many protected spaces there also. The 504 sites of the Coastal Conservatory and the 65 natural reserves form part of a contrasting occupation of the territory (agricultural areas, natural spaces or dense urban fabric) playing different roles: vast hearts of nature here, urban interruptions there.
